Geez, I haven’t been able to figure out one in weeks.  You guys have really been upping the ante.  Shot in the dark for Visitor’s film: Kamikaze Girls?

New page, so a quick overview of this quiz for new readers: it’s basically a “guess-which-film-this-is” sort of thing.
We play with three movies at the same time. Once you have correctly guessed which movie a screenshot is from you earn the right to post a new screenshot yourself.

Anyone can participate!
The full rules can be found in the first post, so if you’re serious please check them out. The list of which films have already been used can be found in the second, third and fourth post. You’re allowed to re-use films though, so don’t worry if your favorite already received a turn some time ago.

You can participate even if you’re not interested in posting screenshots (or don’t know how to).
In that case just yell FREE-FOR-ALL when you’ve won and that means someone else can (and will !) take your place.

These are currently the three films in play:

Movie #1. Ard Vijn posted these anime stills, which is not Only Yesterday:

Movie #2. i posted these stills (and now a third one) which is not Kamikaze Girls or Zebraman, but is a very popular Japanese movie:

Movie #3. Zombeaner posted these stills, which is not Breakin’ or Beverly Hills Cop. and that second still is the lead actor’s back:

It’s been a while, is the Japanese non-animated one Takashi Miike’s BIRD PEOPLE OF CHINA?  (Yes I’m convinced it’s MIIKE, but that doesn’t narrow it down film-wise!)

i can see where you’re coming from, Kurt, and that’s a pretty intelligent guess. but no it’s not Bird People In China, and it is also not Miike.

remember, this is a very popular film, and it has even been remade by Hollywood.

man, it’s been so long since I’ve seen it that I can’t place any of those stills. Which I guess is always a good thing cos you can go back and watch it as if you’re watching for the first time again

Another shot for Movie #1, and this film appears to be a little harder than usual. I’m not even sure our resident otaku Peter van der Lugt would immediately recognize this title, as I KNOW he’s never seen it, but this was a theatrical release in Japan a few years back and the DVD I own has English subs. So it counts!
This film was made by a Japanese animation studio known for some technical expertise, but generally not for brilliant storytelling. At times they deliver quite brilliant work though and can often be spotted in the credits as extra hands for productions of Madhouse, Studio 4C and Production IG.

Now this specific title was a bit atypical for this studio, because while on a technical level it was never truly brilliant (though still quite well-done), the writing was surprisingly mature and emotionally successful. There are some warts in it (mainly in the form of hard-to-avoid clichés) but this is definitely good anime. I certainly do not regret owning this…

Anyway, note that I sometimes hide hints in the names of the pictures, and the previous pic (not this one) had a straight clue to the title in it.

I’m also taking the FREE-FOR-ALL for Movie #2 left by rda and, as asked by Guitarbrother, this one is somewhat more mainstream. wink

That is the last Star Trek movie, isn’t it?  And yes, I owe another image from my other movie.

No, I get where you’re coming from but that is NOT any of the “Trek” movies, old or new.
