Well, actually they’re not my reflections but Brian Hu’s well written essay on why this Taiwanese film has been so popular both inside and outside of its native country. I came across this piece while researching reviews of the equally phenominal soundtrack album. Anyway, the link connects to UCLA’a Asia Institute’s Asia Pacific Arts on-line magazine where the essay of this topic originated: 7 Reflections on Cape No.7 at
http://www.asiaarts.ucla.edu/081031/article.asp?parentID=99915  Those wanting to invest in the collector’s edition LE dvd might want to view some pics at the other Twitch forum titled, “Which DVD edition is the most Beautiful of All”

thanks for the link. interesting read.

i recently visited a filmmaker friend in Taipei, and he said the film got good word of mouth simply through blogs. because blogs are a big thing in Taiwan. i guess it also helped that the other 6 reasons were there too.

I just read that article and (having already ordered it) I wonder why nobody mentions any rampant nudity, drug use or car chases?

I mean, it’s a hit, right? There must be some reason…

It must be that ‘language’ that they mention at the beginning of the film…I mean, that’s why I ordered the set!!!!!

I just received a $5.00 coupon voucher from PlayAsia.com which I don’t forsee using, so I’m offering it to the first person that PM’s me. The code expires on April 24, 2009 and there is a $50.00 product minimum. I got the voucher in conjunction with my ordering the CAPE No.7 OST box set. (You can see pictures of the OST within the Which DVD Editon Box is the most beautful of them all? forum)
