I dug Gran Torino a heck-uv-a-lot more than I though I would:  My full discussion on this is found here:  http://www.rowthree.com/2009/01/20/cinecast-episode-109-the-business-of-selling-candy/

Gotta check out Gran Torino sometime.

5.) Tropic Thunder

I have the commentary on just now behind me, Downey in character as promised in the film! I love Tropic it’s just alot meaner than it should have been.

Ah…the commentary.
My love for Downey has increased…much like my Pug’s weight.

Looking forward to Mr Homes and Watson.

If we’re talking specifically about 09 releases, then as I recall I’ve only seen Australia (in Spain with Spainish subs!), Watchmen and Star Trek. Australia was embarrassing, Watchmen was entertaining but a little broad in places and was NEVER going to live up to the source material anyway (although it did make a surprizingly valid attempt) and Star Trek was great fun!

Paul Blart?  seriously?  that’s gotta be a typo..  hehe

Watchmen wasn’t too good either.

Gran Torino was great, Star Trek was greater.

City of Life and Death is the front-runner of 2009 for me so far. Best film I’ve seen all year (for the first time) is currently The Horse Thief, but that was originally released twenty-three years ago.

So far:

City of Life and Death
Love Exposure
Mother
Antichrist

Fighting for a wildcard spot:

More Than Blue
Tokyo Sonata

And, although I haven’t seen it yet I bet THE CLONE RETURNS HOME gets in. I just have a feeling.

I want to see Mesrine Pt 2.  Saw part one in Sept 2008, and no closure!

Amended 2009 list:

ENTER THE VOID
UP IN THE AIR
SYMBOL
The Limits of Control
Mr. Nobody

Still really want to see:  Love Exposure, Where The Wild Things Are, Collapse, Stingray Sam

Let The Right One In was very good. It got a 2009 DVD release, so I suppose it counts!

A serious Man was a great surprise and definitely an upper-tier Coen’s flick.  It is certainly a contender for the Top 5.  And Where The Wild Things Are was sublime!
