I haven’t seen this reported anywhere else, but thanks to a tip from one of our readers, I learned that Matteo Garrone’s film was imbued with more realism than I imagined.

She writes, “They have now busted the third actor/mafiosi from this movie in Naples for collection protection money: Giovanni Venosa (http://www.spiegel.de/fotostrecke/fotostrecke-38579-6.html#backToArticle=600203).

Actors/mafiosi Salvatore Fabbricino and Bernadino Terracciano (http://www.spiegel.de/fotostrecke/fotostrecke-38579-7.html#backToArticle=600203) already went to jail last October.”

With all the interest Gomorrah has generated (which this latest news will probably only increase), my only concern is that last year’s real discovery, Il Divo, which still has no North American release date on video, will be overlooked. Both films are available with English subtitles (with excellent transfers) from IBS in Italy.

Anyone have any links where these can be purchased? Didn’t know they hit DVD just yet.

Gommora(h) will be released in the UK February 9. Here’s the link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gomorrah-Salvatore-Abruzzese/dp/B001KWHOA6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1232422190&sr=1-1

You might wince at the shipping charges, but you can purchase the English-friendly version of (the superior) Il Divo over at IBS.it. You will receive the package in just a couple days, their service is impeccable, but you might have trouble deciphering the Italian.

Here’s the link: http://www.ibs.it/dvd/8022469067976/toni-servillo-anna-bonaiuto-piera-degli/divo-2-dvd-.html
That’s for the 2-disc version. The single DVD edition is about 2 euros cheaper.

If you have questions, you can always e-mail them and they will send you a reply in English.

Even though I too winced at the shipping charges from IBS. It was your fine comments about this film by you and Kurt elsewhere which prompted me to order this pronto!! Thanks for that weblink, now I have another European source to access dvd’s from. By the way, here is a link to the American? webpage which has some nice screenshots, links, and music excerpts from the fine soundtrack by Teho Teardo.  http://www.luckyred.it/ildivo/sito_en/home.html The soundtrack seems to be such an intergral component of this movie. I think I’ll wait for the USA release of GOMORRA, although the Region 2 dvd seems noteworthy as well.
