Still hunting for decent-to-good-quality bargain BluRays:

The Host (RB-UK): 9.50 EUR
Donkey Punch (RB-UK): 10.50 EUR
Tropa de Elite (RB-UK): 12.99 EUR
Appleseed Ex-Machina (RABC-UK): 12.99 EUR
Persepolis (RB-UK): 12.99 EUR
The Good, The Bad, The Weird (RB-UK): 12.99 EUR
The Incredible Hulk (RB-NL): 13.50 EUR
Casino Royale (2 Disc) (RB-UK): 14:45 EUR
Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology 1989 - 1997 (4 Disc) (RABC-UK): 37.50 EUR

Well, in Europe these are bargains but RA-US prices just baffle me. There are so many discs out there for less than 10 USD already!!

Alas, my player isn’t regionfree (yet).

Spotted a few things in a store’s anime section which were both of interest, although their content couldn’t possibly be more different:

Panda! Go Panda! (DVD, Regionfree-UK)
A very cutesy pre-Ghibli film (it’s from 1972) by Ghibli-founders Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Normally the sacharrine content should kill you, but these guys are masters indeed so it stays entertaining. Interesting to see how many elements of this made it into “My Neighbor Totoro” 15 years later…

Kekko Kamen (Anime Classics Edition) (DVD, R2-UK)
All 4 episodes (actually 2 OAVs split in half) of the Go Nagai inspired series. It’s offensive sexist crap even by his standards, but for just 3.99 EUR (inc. p&p) I just couldn’t resist. The very thought of a team of animators having to draw this for months cracks me up every time!

“Crank 2”

And, forgive me, The ‘£1 shop’ had some cheap Horror DVD’s;

“Blood Gnome” - I know nothing except that it had a groovy trailer.

“Camp Blood 1 & 2” - Infamous SOV Slasher efforts.  Not read good things, but seen a couple of fun clips.

“Jackhammer Massacre” - No idea at all.

“Strange Things Happen at Sundown” - No idea at all, again.

Double-dipped my first BluRay: I bought the US version of Mamoru Oshii’s “The Sky Crawlers”.
Finally I can understand what’s being said in the extras, and I get the impression the main feature has less glitches than the HK Panorama I have. Strange.
Might be there is nothing wrong with the Panorama disc and I just need another hardware update, but still…

“Tetsuo II: Body Hammer” - Upgrade from VHS

“Man Bites Dog” - Upgrade from VHS.

“Dream On” - Season 1.  One of the first risque, digital channel,  American sit-coms and a very funny must for all film fans.

“Hurricane Express”  - Episodes 1-12.  Budget find of the quite rare full episode release of this 1932 John Wayne cliffhanger serial.

Chang Shing-I’s THRILLING BLOODY SWORD (1982)
Masaki Kobayashi’s THE HUMAN CONDITION (Criterion)
AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON: Full Moon Edition

ROMANCE CLASSICS EDITION VOLUME 2 FROM A&E network:

Included in this 14-disc DVD collection:

Horatio Hornblower: The Duel & The Fire Ships
Vanity Fair
Nicholas Nickleby
The Flame Trees of Thika
The Mayor of Casterbridge
Catherine The Great
Tess of the D’Urbervilles
The Great Gatsby

DVD Features:

Horatio Hornblower: About C.S. Forester
Nautical Terms and Definitions
Nicholas Nickleby: Charles Dickens episode of BIOGRAPHY
The Flame Trees of Thika: Elspeth Huxley Biography and Bibliography
Cast Biographies
The Mayor of Casterbridge: Thomas Hardy Biography and Bibliography
Catherine The Great: Cast Filmographies

I mainly got the aforementioned set for the Nicholas Nickleby presentation since I had previously owned this Royal Shakespeare & Co. production on VHS. I’m a sucker for Thomas Hardy as well, and the price was right from a seller on Ebay.

“Seinfeld” - ‘Series 1 & 2’, cheap.
Never actually seen it, but I adore “Curb your Enthusiasm” so i thought I’d give it a go.
