Good review. I was suspicious of this film being exactly as you described after watching two different trailers. Looks like two gifted actors who never shied away from challenging material suddenly just rolled over and asked the public to rub their bellies and giggle at the quirks of modern life.
ehh..no thanks.

Yeah I’ve got pretty high hopes for this despite some middling reactions. I guess it does kinda come off as another big studio fronted indie darling flick a la Juno (which I hated) but the leads push for my enthusiasm.

This ain’t JUNO, and it is not as ‘quirky’ as some might have you believe.  The film is framed from JGL’s character’s point of view, so it is ‘heightened’ (hence the animation, song & dance numbers, bad karaoke, etc.)  It really works and was a very pleasant surprise for me, as it sounds like I had the same impression as you, BtoFu, going in.
