It’s quite simple actually, I post a picture from a movie and the person who comes with the right answer posts a new picture. However, there are a couple of rules:

- The person who posted the picture need to confirm a right answer before a new picture can be posted
- To keep the quiz going, the person who came with right answer has to post a new picture within 3 days of confirmation, or else anyone can post a new picture
- If possible the movie the picture is taken from should be available for most people
- If the correct answer hasn’t been posted within 2-3 days after the picture was posted you need to come with either a hint or post another screenshot from the same movie.
- The aspect ratio should not differ a lot from the original aspect ratio. Furthermore the pictures shouldn’t be manipulated.

The rules listed above can be adjusted if necessary.

Pictures can be uploaded at http://imageshack.us/
This is the list of all movies which have been used so far. I will try and keep this updated, and they are currently in order of being guessed right. Please note that there is NO rule against re-using a movie!

Also there has been a little change in the rules:

I’ve noticed some people would like to participate but refrain from doing so because winning would mean they’d have to post a screenshot.
I can understand posting screenshots may be somewhat of a hassle for people, especially if you don’t have a place on the internet to dump them on (or don’t know how to). Or maybe you’re just out of ideas on what to post.

For this reason I’d like to suggest that if you want to guess the picture but don’t want to post a screenshot, you just add

“Free-for-all”

after your guess.

This “free-for-all” signal will mean that (if the guess was right) whoever wants to post the next screenshot can do so.

Oh, and recently we went from 1 movie to 3 movies at the same time. So chances are you’ll know at least one of them!

Anyway, the list so far can be found in this post and the next. HAVE FUN!!!

Out to own on Double Play: January 30th, 2012

A revered revenge classic co-written by Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver) and acknowledged by Quentin Tarantino as one of his favourite movies when he named his video company after the 70s revenge classic - “Most movies let you down, but this is ass-kicking nirvana!”

Starring William Devane in a stoic performance as Major Charles Rane, a man who has been pushed beyond his limits during an eight year incarceration in the Hanoi Hilton. He returns to his Texas hometown with his friend Sergeant Vohden (Tommy Lee Jones), just a vague shadow of the man he used to be. Finding himself a local celebrity and awarded with a briefcase of silver dollars- one for every day he was a POW, he tries to adapt to civilian life with his wife (Linda Haynes), who is now engaged to another man, and his son, who doesn’t remember him.

But any chance at healing is destroyed when a gang of thugs show up at his house to steal the silver. Tragedy thus descends on Major Rane a second time, stealing whatever shred of humanity was in him, and sending him on a one-way mission: vengeance at any cost.

The remarkable story of Hollywood’s most prolific and influential writer-director-producer, the legendary Roger Corman, is the subject of director Alex Stapleton’s affectionate, witty and hugely entertaining documentary, Corman’s World: Exploits Of A Hollywood Rebel, which charts the Oscar winning filmmaker’s career from his early days working in the mail room at 20th Century Fox to the set of one of his most recently produced “creature features”, “Dinoshark”.

Essential viewing for every cineaste, Corman’s World is “a delightful tribute” (Variety) to a true Hollywood great and one that proves to be thrilling, fun, informative and frequently touching (witness a rare and genuinely emotional scene featuring Jack Nicholson that, alone, makes this an unmissable documentary).

Leaving no doubt as to Corman’s seminal influence on modern-day cinema, the film features enlightening interviews with an incredible cavalcade of Hollywood icons, luminaries and A-listers (many of whom began their own careers working under Corman), including Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Joe Dante, Quentin Tarantino, John Sayles, Jonathan Demme, Eli Roth, Peter Fonda, Peter Bogdanovich, William Shatner and countless others.

Combining archival footage with contemporary clips and interviews, Corman’s World chronicles how one man created an empire, cultivating undiscovered talent and pushing the boundaries of what independent filmmakers could achieve when working outside the studio system. From Corman’s original genre-defining works such as “The Fast And The Furious”, “The Little Shop Of Horrors” and his classic film adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe stories, to his distribution of the art house films of Bergman, Kurosawa, Fellini and Truffaut and his continuing work as one of the world’s leading independent film producers, Stapleton’s superb documentary recounts a career that has spanned an astonishing six decades.

Corman’s World: Exploits Of A Hollywood Rebel (cert. tbc) will be a Picturehouse Culture Shock Presentation on Tuesday 21st February and will be available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray from 26th March 2012.

“THIS IS THE BEST GODDAMN INDIE MOVIE EVER!” – ARROW IN THE HEAD.

The award winning debut feature from director Alex Orr, the pitch-black comedy Blood Car mixes surrealist humour, sharp social commentary, kinky sex and buckets of blood to create “an absolutely hilarious satire that throws in South Park-type perversity and Evil Dead-style splatter while keeping its heart in the right place” (Total Sci-Fi Online).

Winner of numerous awards, including the New Visions Award at the Cinequest Film Festival and the Best Narrative Feature Film awards at the Chicago Underground Film Festival and the Philadelphia First Glance Film Festival, and starring Anna Chlumsky (best known for her charming starring role in My Girl two decades ago), Mike Brune (Van Wilder: Freshman Year) and Katie Rowlett (her feature debut), Blood Car is an independent horror-comedy gem that fully deserves to be rewarded with the cult status accorded to the films of Roger Corman, Frank Henenlotter, John Waters and Russ Meyer.

It is the very near future and global petrol prices have rocketed so high that the average person can no longer afford to drive. A geeky vegan, Archie Andrews (Brune) is a primary schoolteacher by profession but spends his spare hours trying to develop an engine that can run on the wheatgrass he buys from local stallholder, Lorraine (Chlumsky). During his research, Archie accidentally discovers that his latest prototype engine runs most efficiently not on wheatgrass but on human blood. When his newfound auto-mobility attracts the amorous attentions of slut-about-town and meat stall owner Denise (Rowlett) – Lorraine’s rival in both matters of love and commerce – Archie’s libido prompts him to do whatever it takes to keep his car on the road, even if it means resorting to cold-blooded murder.

Blood Car is “a dark, twisted and damn funny movie which blends bloody portions of horror, humour and political satire” (Twitch) into a story that audaciously and occasionally offensively pokes fun at modern society’s dependence upon petrol, the search for a suitable replacement form of energy and the corrupting nature of power and wealth.

Blood Car is released by Left Films and will open selected cinemas around the UK from 24th February 2012.

So I’m pretty fond of this movie. Okay that’s a bit of an understatement given that I’ve developed a huge man-crush on Gosling and all. I’m interested in (hopefully) picking up a BR/DVD that actually reflects the stye of the movie. The US edition isn’t really cutting it at all with that dodgy cover. The UK version isn’t much better although HMV have a steelbook that’s a shade prettier. However right now my eye is roving towards the French BR/DVD/CD combo. Cover art still isn’t reallyyyyy doing it for me though.

So Twitchers, are there any other editions out there you’ve come across that’s perhaps a little more catalogue model-ish? A little more neon pink mistral fontly? Let me know!

I have some firm favourites that I never have anyone to talk about with. I can only assume that people don’t like these movies or they aren’t worth seeing to anyone except me.

Case in point: Legend. I love the movie and everything about it. Nobody else seems to.

Another one: Dune. It’s just epic on every scale. Panned by everyone, seemingly.

And a slightly embarrassing one: Karate Kid III. There was something about this and the buildup to the showdown. Most people disliked the third in the chapter, but it was my personal favourite. I thought it had a lot of emotion in it.

And so, others?
